Victorian Graduated Single Albert by Edward Whitehouse & Son – With Extension

$549.00

This chain began life in the workshops of Edward Whitehouse & Son, Birmingham, one of the respected silversmiths of the late Victorian era. The T-bar is dated 1887 and the clip 1899, with lions struck across every original graduated curb link. We have added the 8 cm extension was added to give extra length - this was from an existing antique curb chain . Though slightly more modern (circa 1920’s), it was well chosen, keeping with the original style so the chain remains practical and complete.

Details

  • Sterling silver (92.5%)

  • Era: Victorian (1887 / 1899)

  • Maker: Edward Whitehouse & Son, Birmingham

  • Technique: Graduated curb link

  • Hallmarks: Lions on all original links; extension unmarked but tested.

Dimensions

  • Weight: 44.92 g

  • Length: 38 cm + 8 cm removable extension

Why It Matters
True 19th-century Alberts are increasingly hard to source, especially those fully lion-marked across the chain. The sympathetic extension means this piece can be worn comfortably today while retaining its Victorian integrity.

Condition
Antique chain with gentle age wear. Extension blends seamlessly with the style.

Collector’s Note
Whitehouse & Son chains are collected for their consistent quality. This example speaks to both the endurance of Victorian silver and the practicality of later owners adapting fine pieces to keep them in use.
