Heavy Edwardian Heavy Single Albert by Frank William Cole – Long Graduated Curb
This long and weighty single Albert chain bears the hallmark of Frank William Cole, Birmingham, dated 1908. Constructed with graduated curb links and fully lion-marked, it shows the kind of quality associated with Cole’s workshop during the Edwardian period. At over 45 cm in length, it is unusually long compared to standard single Alberts.short fob extension looks to be added but all links have lion passant.
The single clip is of a slightly later vintage hallmarked SS, but the body of the chain remains entirely original.

Why It Matters
Length and weight matter in Albert chains — and this example delivers both. Its impressive presence makes it suitable for display as much as wear. While the later clip reduces strict originality, the strength and size make it highly collectible and a pleasure to handle.
Condition
Excellent antique condition, later clip replacement noted. Natural patina consistent with age.
Collector’s Note
Heavier single Alberts are far scarcer than their double counterparts. This Cole example is a strong addition for collectors who value substance and wearable history.
